Short Story Tweets

keyboard writing image

This site is all about short stories. Admittedly, at this exact moment in time, it is only home to two short stories, but I can assure you that there are lots more percolating around in my brain. They will find their way out soon I know, seeping through my fingers into the keyboard and, from there, it is only a hop, skip and a jump to the great big world that is the internet.

This week is Short Story Week and, in honour of this event, there have been various short story-related events. This afternoon, on twitter, the Penguin Books UK twitter feed launched #ShortStoryTweet, a challenge to write a snippet of a story in less than 140 characters. The response has been varied, speedy and hugely entertaining. This afternoon was not meant to be spent watching these nano stories appear on twitter, but it turned out to be an enjoyable way to pass a few hours.

It did not take long for this to be noticed by the wider internet community and it seems, happily, to have been regarded as a ‘good thing’. This article, in particular, praised it as ‘the nicest thing on the internet this week’. They also featured one of my entries within the article, which was very nice of them; I have reproduced it here in an act of worrying narcissism:

Moving swiftly on, you should turn your attention back to the #ShortStoryTweet challenge itself. If you are on twitter then why not join in yourself?

Happy reading.
